WICHITA, Kan. – The men's and women's cross country teams travel to Ames, Iowa to compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional Friday morning.
The Shockers are back in action after an off week following the American Championships on Oct. 28. The women will run a 6K race starting at 10:45 a.m., followed by the men running a 10K at 11:45 a.m.
For the men it will be their first 10K race of the season, following an 8K at the American Conference Championships.
"It's not a negative in any way, it's a positive, we have a number of guys who are 10K minded guys," head cross country coach
Kirk Hunter said. "Throughout the year, we have done many workouts that are geared toward the 10K race."
For the women, they will be running a 6K course starting at 10:45 a.m.
"This group has done really well, just going out and running the best they can and not getting rattled," Hunter said. "As long as they keep doing that, I'm excited to see how they will finish."
The Midwest Regional features 30 men's teams and 35 women's teams, the top two teams as well as the top four finishers at each regional automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships Nov. 18, in Louisville, Ky.
