Former Shockers Compete in NYC Marathon

NEW YORK –
Former Shockers Kellyn Taylor and Aliphine Tuliamuk placed in the top 15 of the New York City Marathon Sunday morning.
 
Kellyn Taylor finished the marathon in eighth place running the 26.2 mile course in 2:29.56 with a 5:44 mile pace. Taylor was the third American to cross the finish line.
 
Aliphine Tuliamuk ran the marathon in 2:33.18 with a 5:51 mile pace to finish 11th overall and fifth American.
 
American Shalane Flanagan won the race in 2:26.53 for the women, Kenyan Geoffrey Kamworor won the men's race with a time of 2:10.53.

Taylor competed as a Shocker in 2004-09 on the track and field and cross country teams. She was the 2007 MVC outdoor champion in the 1500m, 2008 indoor champion in the 5000m, 2009 indoor mile and 5000m champion, and 2009 outdoor MVC Champion in the 1500m, 5000m and 3000m steeplechase. She was also a 2009 NCAA indoor All-American in the mile.

Tuliamuk won the 2011 MVC cross country championship finishing the 5K race in 17:16.6, in 2012 she won the championship with a time of 16:58.35. She earned All-America honors with a fourth place finish in the 6K race at the 2012 NCAA cross country championships and a 12th place finish in 2011. After winning the NCAA Midwest Regional in 2011, Tuliamuk was named the Midwest Region Women's Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association.
