WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State softball team finishes the fall 2017 schedule when they play host to Barton Community College Wednesday afternoon and Northern Oklahoma College Enid Thursday evening, both at Wilkins Stadium.
The Shockers host the Cougars Wednesday afternoon [2 p.m. first pitch] who finished the 2017 season 30-16 overall, reaching the 30 win mark for the third straight season. Barton ended the year by falling in the double elimination NJCAA Region VI Tournament in El Dorado, Kan.
On Thursday, the Shockers will play Northern Oklahoma College Enid [5 p.m. first pitch] who finished the 2017 year 35-26 and 15-17 in conference play. The Jets fell in the NJCAA Region II Tournament to Seminole State College who the Shockers defeated 7-1 back in September. Last season, Wichita State scored nine unanswered runs against the Jets with the highlight being a two-out home run from
Madison Perrigan.
This fall slate the Shockers have scored 60 runs in six games, allowing just nine in return, with
Paige Luellen leading the Shockers in batting average [.667] and on base percentage [.708].
Laurie Derrico [.875] and
Asea Webber [.824] lead in slugging percentage with Derrico scoring 11 runs and Luellen has 10. Derrico also leads the team with 11 RBI's.
Bailey Lange leads the five pitchers with a 0.00 earned run average through 14 innings pitched, striking out 23 and allowing only one walk.
Caitlin Bingham and
Bailey Klitzke are both under 1.50 ERA's through 16 and 13 innings pitched, respectively.
Both games this week are $5 at the gate with no advance purchases available. Wichita State students with a valid form of student ID will receive free admission.
