10/1/2017 6:25:00 PM

Malibu, Calif. - Sophomore Fatima Bizhukova finished pre-qualifying play Sunday afternoon in Malibu at the ITA All-American Championships.  Bizhukova went 2-1 on the weekend for the Shockers.

Bizhukova faced Katarina Jokic in the final round of pre-qualifying and came up short to finish play in singles. The University of Georgia freshman defeated Bizhukova in straight sets 6-1, 6-1, on the campus of Pepperdine University.

"Fatya had a great day yesterday against two quality opponents. Her opponent today is one of the best freshman in the country and was firing on all cylinders," said head coach Colin Foster.

The sophomore had a successful weekend in Malibu, going 2-1 including a victory over Zoe Douglas of Iowa, who ranks No. 92 in ITA College Rankings. She will continue play Thursday with teammate Gabriela Porubin in doubles action. The duo comes into the Championships No. 16, and will compete in the main draw.

"Fatya struggled to get into any rhythm and despite fighting to the end, never was able to get comfortable in the match," Foster said. "It was a good weekend for her and she and Gabriela are looking forward to the doubles later this week."
