Shockers at UNI, Washington

WICHITA, Kan. --  Wichita State's track and field team will send a squad of multi-athletes to Northern Iowa, while a select group of distance runners will travel to the University of Washington this week.

WSU's men's Heptathlon multi-athletes compete Thursday and Friday at the Jack Jennett Open inside the UNI Dome starting at 11 a.m. on Jan. 26. The meet will resume on Jan. 27 at 10 a.m. with the completion of the Heptathlon, and at 10:45 a.m. with the women's Pentathlon. WSU's pole vaulters compete Friday afternoon. | Meet Schedule

The UNI Dome will be the site of the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championship on Feb. 25-26.

A small contingent of distance runners will compete at the University of Washington Invitational in Seattle, Washington. The meet will be competed inside the Dempsey Indoor Facility on Friday and Saturday. Sidney Hirsch will run the 5,000 meters on Friday night, and on Saturday morning, Rebekah Topham and Zack Penrod will run the mile. Wichita State is coming off a week where it set 10 Top 10 all-time individual marks, including the women's 4x400m school record. In addition, Michael Wells tied the No. 2 time in the 60 meters at 6.82. Also setting the No. 2 distance in the shot put was Kelsey Slawson, who threw a distance of 48-6.25/14.79m.

WSU also set 19 new personal bests, have 18 women in the Top 100 NCAA marks, and 22 men in the Top 100. Nikki Larch-Miller's 3,910 Pentathlon points is fourth in the NCAA to top the women, while Hunter Veith's 25-0/7.62m in the long jump is 14th to top the men's list.

Women's Track - Taylor  Larch-Miller
Taylor Larch-Miller was a member of the 4x400 team of Natalie Halfman, Nikki Larch-Miller and Martiesha Caines that broke the school record and ran the relay in 3:42.87, breaking the old indoor school record of 3:43,09 set in 2011. In addition, Taylor Larch-Miller was second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.39, which is the 40th-best in the NCAA. Both times were at the Mark Colligan Memorial in Lincoln, Neb.
 
Women's Field - Kelsey Slawson
-Kelsey Slawson was third in the shot put with a throw of 48-6.25/14.79m at the Mark Colligan Memorial in Lincoln, Neb.Her throw is the second-best in Shocker history and the 69th-best in the country to date.
 
Men's Track - Joe Harter
-Joe Harter was third in the 5,000 meters in a time of 14:43.48 at the Mark Colligan Memorial in Lincoln, Neb. His time was the ninth-best in Shocker history and the 35th-best in the NCAA this season.
 
Men's Field - Garret Lynch
Garret Lynch won the high jump at the Mark Colligan Memorial in Lincoln, Neb., with a height of 6-10.5/2.09m, which is the 55th-best in the country this season.
