Nick Taylor will be competing for his fourth consecutive gold medal in wheelchair tennis at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro.
A Wichita native, Taylor and his doubles partner David Wagner have won the gold medal in the last three Paralympic Games, and won more than a dozen Grand Slam titles. Duing that span, Taylor and Wagner held the number one ranking in the world. In 2012, Taylor also won a bronze medal in singles play after finishing fourth in both 2004 and 2008. Taylor, 36, was born with arthrogyrposis: a congenital disease that contracts and restricts muscular development.
Taylor begins singles play on Friday, Sept. 9 vs. Antony Cotterill (GBR). Quad doubles play begins on Saturday, Sept. 10, but Taylor and Wagner - the number one seeded doubles team - automatically advance to the semifinals on Sept. 11, as the top two seeds are awarded a bye in the quarterfinals. They will face the winner of Itai Erenlib/Shraga Weinberg (ISR) vs. Rodrigo Oliveira/Ymanitu Silva (BRA).
Taylor will be beginning his 13th season on staff with the men's tennis program.
