WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita State women's tennis team will travel to Norman, Okla. on Sept. 30 - Oct. 2 to play in the OU Fall Invite at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
The tournament will feature two 16-player singles draws, two round robin singles draws as well as two eight-team doubles draws and one round robin bracket for doubles play. Friday will feature two rounds of both doubles and singles play. Saturday will begin with the final round of doubles and three rounds of singles action. The tournament will finish on Sunday with two rounds of singles play.
The seven-team field includes Wichita State, Tulsa, SMU, North Texas, and also features Big 12 members Kansas State, Texas Tech and host school Oklahoma.
At the Invite last season,
Gabriela Porubin finished as the runner-up in the top singles flight, and won the top doubles flight (with teammate
Julia Schiller).
Giulia Guidetti (and
Luca Pump) lost in the second-flight doubles semifinals, and also made it to the third-flight singles semifinals.
Tanaporn Thongsing (along with
Abby Stevens) finished sixth in the second doubles flight.
Guidetti will compete at the 2016 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships beginning on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, California. Guidetti will play in the Pre-Qualifying Singles tournament, facing off with Madison Harrision from Mississippi State, who is the number three seed.
