Final Results
TULSA, Okla. – The Wichita State women's golf team carded their best score of the weekend in the final round en-route to a tied for fifth finish at the Bob Hurley ORU Shootout.
The women's weekend best 304 gave them a team total of 925 over the weekend which was 73-over par overall.
Taryn Torgerson upped her game in the final 18 to lead the Shockers with a 2-over par 72 in the final round. Torgerson ended the tournament in seventh position after finishing 11-over par with two birdies and three bogies in round three with a total of 224 over the three rounds.
After a strong start in day one, Gavrilla Arya faded in the final round after carding five bogies and two double-bogies on day two. Arya shot 79 in round three to finish at 230, 17-over par and tied for 20th individually.
After struggling in the first day Maria Alejandra Villalobos had her best round of the tournament after carding 76 in the final 18 holes. Villalobos had eight birdies in round three as she finished tied for 47th with 237, 24-over par.
Laine Evans struggled through day one but found her feet on day two. Evans eventually just finished behind Villalobos in tied for 49th place. Evans shot 77 in the final round to finish at 328 and 25-over par.
Freshman Annika Chickering rounded out the team after finishing in tied for 56th individually. Chickering shot 79 in round three to end at 240, 27-over par.
Lamar ran away with the tournament title after carding a 296 in the final 18. They were the only team to finish under 900 in total with 895, good for 43-over par. Tournament host Oral Roberts were the closest pursuers but still finished 13 strokes behind with 908, good for 56-over par. Stephen F. Austin came in third with a team total of 912 and 60-over par.
The Shockers now look to the Missouri Valley Conference Preview in Cape Girardeau, Mo., held Monday Oct. 3rd through Tuesday Oct. 4th. Hosted by Southern Illinois this will be the first time Wichita State has participated in the two-day tournament.
