TUCSON, Ariz. - The Wichita State men's tennis team finished play at the Wildcat Invitational at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center, hosted by the University of Arizona.
Friday, Sept. 23:
In doubles play,
Eddie Stoica and
Austin Williams defeated the No. 4 seed team of Harry Busby and Will Kneale (Arizona) by a score of 6-2.
In the singles A draw, Stoica defeated Stijn Dehaan (New Mexico State) 6-1, 5-7, 7-5. Stoica then topped Mathieu Rajaonah (Grand Canyon) 2-6, 7-6, 6-0 to advance to the semifinals.
In the B draw, Luis Flores (NMSU) beat
Vitor Mendes 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. Mendes would rebound, defeating Matt Fisher (Mesa CC) 6-3, 6-3 in the consolation bracket.
In the C Draw, Mike Lee (UA) defeated Williams 6-2, 6-3.
Saturday, Sept. 24:
In doubles play, Stoica and Williams defeated Francois Musitelli and Greg Balenci (GCU) 6-3. Patrik Pech and Jeremy Moser (Fresno State) defeated the Shockers duo in the quarterfinals 6-2.
Kneale (UA) defeated Stoica 6-4, 6-4 in the singles A draw.
Sunday, Sept. 25:
Tim Handel and Sebastian Eguez (NAU) defeated Stoica and Williams in the third place doubles match 6-4.
In the consolation bracket, Stoica defeated Joel Popov (SDSU) 6-4, 6-3.
The Shockers will head down to Tulsa, Okla. from October 1-9 to compete at the ITA All-American Championships.
