FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Wichita State All-American alum and Wichita native Austin Bahner placed seventh at the 2016 Thorpe Cup, an annual dual competition of multi-athletes in the Heptathlon and Decathlon between Germany and the United States.

Steve Rainbolt helped coach the U.S. Decathlon team to the win against Germany as Bahner's 7,593 points was the sixth-best of the Americans. Only one German finished in front of the Wichita Heights and Shocker product who improved from a ninth-place finish in 2014.
Bahner placed third in the 100 meters with a time of 10.74, second in the long jump at 23-7 1/2, 11th in the shot (at 42-9 3/4) 13th in the high jump (6-0.5) and sixth in the 400 meters (49.41) on the first day.
In second-day action, he was 13th in the 110 meter hurdles (15.56), third in the discus at 143-9, third in the pole vault at 15-11, seventh in the javelin at 174-10, and sixth in the 1,500 meters (4:51.35) to round out the competition.
The U.S. won the decathlon with 38,845 points over Germany's 37,427. The U.S. women won the heptathlon with 18,320 points over Germany's 16,421.
The U.S.'s Scott Filip won the decathlon with 7,876 points.
