2016 Schedule
WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State head volleyball coach
Chris Lamb announced the 2016 volleyball schedule Friday afternoon, which includes 12 home matches and four tournaments. The Shockers will play 11 matches against teams that participated in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
The Shockers will open the season, Aug. 26-27, at the Iowa State Challenge in Ames, Iowa. WSU opens the season with 2015 NCAA Tournament participant and host Iowa State on Aug. 26 and wraps up the tourney on Aug. 27 with former Valley rival Creighton, who was a NCAA Regional semifinalist in 2015.
The following weekend, Sept. 2-3, the Shockers open the home portion of their schedule with the Shocker Volleyball Classic at Charles Koch Arena. WSU will host Cincinnati on Sept. 2 and then play IUPUI and 2015 NCAA Tourney participant Marquette on Sept. 3.
WSU will travel to Fort Collins, Colo., Sept. 8-11, for the Colorado State Tournament. The Shockers will square off with host and 2015 NCAA Tourney participant Colorado State on Sept. 8 and will face 2015 NCAA Runner-Up Texas on Sept. 10. WSU wraps up the trip to Colorado with a match against Samford on Sept. 11.
The following weekend, the Shockers wrap up non-conference play with a trip to the Roadrunners Roundup in San Antonio, Texas. WSU will face Texas Tech and Texas State on Sept. 16 and finish the tourney with host UTSA on Sept. 17.
WSU opens Missouri Valley Conference play on Sept. 23 at 2015 NCAA Tourney participant Missouri State. The Bears return the trip to Wichita on Oct. 21.
Other 2015 NCAA Tourney participants on WSU's schedule are UNI (Oct. 1 and Oct. 28) and Southern Illinois (Oct. 10 and Nov. 18).
In 2015, WSU finished sixth in the Shocker record books in total attendance (31,650) and ninth in average attendance (2,261) and finished 15th nationally in average attendance.
