Box ScoreWICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State women's tennis team won its quarterfinal opener Friday morning at the Missouri Valley Conference Team Tennis Championships, 4-0, over eighth-seeded Evansville.
Rain pushed the teams indoors to the Wichita Country Club. WSU won the doubles point, and -- with only three courts available -- the teams opened with singles matches at positions 1-3 only.
Rebecca Pedrazzi won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles,
Gabriela Porubin followed with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 1, and
Julia Schiller clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-1 decision of her own on court No. 3.
Giulia Guidetti led 2-0 in the first set at No. 4 singles, while Nos. 5 and 6 had yet to begin play.
WSU (25-3) posted its ninth-straight MVC Tournament sweep. The Shockers last allowed a point in the 2012 final and have won 21-consecutive conference tourney matches overall.
The Shockers will play a Saturday semifinal match against the winner of fourth-seeded Illinois State and fifth-seeded Bradley. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. CT.
