Baker leads West Squad to All-Star Victory

HOUSTON – Wichita State's Ron Baker scored 14 points and snagged six rebounds to help the West squad defeat the East, 89-85, in the 2016 NABC Reese's College All-Star Game, Friday evening at NRG Arena.

Fred VanVleet was also selected for the West squad. He joined the team on the bench but chose not to participate in game action.

Baker hit 5-of-11 shots from the field, including 4-of-7 from three-point range, and dished out two assists.

Baker drilled a pair of first-half treys. The second came at the 4:37-mark and gave the West squad a 36-34 lead. They would never trail again.

Up 43-42 at the half, Baker started off the second half with a three. The East squad answered with a bucket, but West then reeled off the next 10 points to build up a 12-point margin.

Down as many as 14, East rallied to tie the game with 3:37 to go, but a Jaysean Paige jumper and Baker's layup with 2:47 remaining helped turn the tide.

Baker and VanVleet were joined on the West squad by fellow All-MVC selection Egidijus Mockevicius, who finished with 12 points and six rebounds.

Paige (from West Virginia) and Joel Bolomboy (Weber State) scored 15 points each to lead the West team, and SFA's Thomas Walkup also finished in double-figures with 12 points. Bolomboy was named MVP after collecting a game-high 11 rebounds to complete a double-double stat line.

David Walker (Northeastern) and Trey Lewis (Louisville) led the East with 17 points each, and Anthony Gill (Virginia) added 15.
