WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State fought off a tough Illinois State squad to win 4-1 Saturday afternoon at Genesis Health Club.

WSU moved to 14-10 overall this season, while improving to 1-1 in MVC play. The Redbirds fell to 8-12 and 0-2 with the loss. The Shockers were once again without the services of No. 1 singles player Tin Ostojic for the third straight match due an ankle injury.

Illinois State picked up the doubles point after wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Sergio de Vilchez and Eddie Stoica won No. 3 doubles over Illinois State's Rodrigo Oliveira and Rolando Torrellas, 6-4.

Miroslav Herzan tied the match at 1-1 following his straight sets win in No. 1 singles over Jakub Eisner, 6-1, 6-2. Just a few minutes later Haru Inoue made it 2-1 Wichita State. Inoue defeated Christoffer Greve, 6-2, 6-1, for his team-leading 15th win of the season.

A Wichita State win at No. 5 singles from de Vilchez put the Shockers ahead 3-1 in the match. De Vilchez took down Dylan Steffens, 6-3, 7-6. Jocelyn Devilliers recorded the clincher with a three-set win on court No. 2. The junior came back after dropping the first set to Oliveira, 6-4, to win the next two by scores of 6-2, 6-2.

The Shockers will conclude the regular season tomorrow vs. Southern Illinois at 10 a.m. and will also serve as Senior Day for two WSU seniors, Ostojic and de Vilchez. The match will be played indoors at Genesis Health Club.
