Borman, Veith Lead Multi-Events

WICHITA, Kan.  --  Wichita State's track and field multi-event athletes Breanne Borman and Hunter Veith lead the Heptathlon and Decathlon, respectively, after the first day of competition at the K.T. Woodman Track and Field Classic Wednesday afternoon inside Cessna Stadium.

Veith scored 3,999 points after five events which included a personal record in the long jump of 24-6 which was the best jump of the day in the event. Veith was second in the high jump at 6-8.25 (2.04m), third in the 100 meters (11.04) and fourth in the shot put (38-9.5/11.82m) and 400 meters (50.65).

In the women's Heptathlon, Borman leads teammate Gavyn Yetter, 3,258 to 3,180, after the four women's events, while Sierra Hays is fifth (2,987), Carlea Holt is sixth (2,825), Emily Doffing is eighth (2,792), Ximena Cazenave is ninth (2,637).

Borman won the 100 hurdles (14.23) and high jump (5-7.25/1.71m) while Yetter won the shot put (41-04.25/12.60m) and the 200 meters (25.11) to end the first day.

Competing unattached, Shania VanNoster is 12th (2,218), and Lauren Rowland is 13th (2,063)

Rounding out the Decathlon for WSU, Ben Johnson was fifth (3,561), Seth Buck was eighth (3,331) John Nicholas was ninth (3,244) and Kyle Troxler was 10th (3,244) after the first day.

Ben Johnson, Seth Buck and John Nicholas took the top four spots in the shot put with throws of 43-9.75, 40-9.75 and 40-1.25, respectively.

The Multi's wrap up on Thursday with the 110 meter hurdles, discus, pole vault javelin and 1,500 meters in the Men's Decathlon beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Women's Heptathlon completes the multi-event with the long jump, javelin and the 800 meters beginning at 11:45 a.m.

Yetter, whose 5,447 points at the Crowe Rice Multi-Events ranks 12th in the NCAA and 10th in the West Region, has the fourth-best total in Shocker history coming into the meet, while Borman's 2015 personal best point total of 5,406 is the fifth-best ever at WSU.

Veith carries the best point total to date with 7,027 points in the 10 events. His personal best is just 57 points out of the 10th spot in the Shocker Top 10 all-time list where former Shocker Chris Dickman sits at 7,084 points in 2008. 

The multi-events opened four days of track and field headlined by the 69th-Annual K.T. Woodman and the Shocker Pre-State High School meet.

More than 70 high schools are entered in the Pre-State meet, while more than 40 collegiate, small college and junior colleges will compete in the K.T. Woodman. Close to 2,600 athletes are scheduled to compete during the four-day event.

Division I schools include Kansas State, North Texas, UMKC and Oral Roberts, while the junior college entries include Iowa Central and Iowa Western, two of the top two-year schools in the country.

The Pre-State High School portion of the meet starts Thursday at 5 p.m. with the Elite Field Events and at 6:30 p.m. with the Distance Carnival. The complete four-day schedule is here.
