WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State baseball student-athlete Gunnar Troutwine has been named to the watch list for the 2016 Johnny Bench Award.

Troutwine, a sophomore catcher from Fairway, Kan., is hitting .389 with 13 runs, 14 hits, three doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI in 11 games this season.

The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission announced the 74-person watch list on March 8. Because the award is given annually to the top Division I collegiate catcher, the list will be updated to include other candidates until May 3.

The watch list will be narrowed down to the semifinalists, whom will be announced May 18. Ballots will be sent to the national voting panel at the end of May for a vote to determine the three finalists. The finalists will be announced June 6. A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita and the winner will be announced at the 19^th Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 30.
