In San Antonio, Wichita State will face competitors from host UT-San Antonio, Kansas State, Stephen F. Austin, Houston, Sam Houston, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Texas Rio Grande Valley.
Friday's action is scheduled to begin at noon with the hammer and javelin. The discus then will be contested at 3 p.m., and that will be followed by the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5k beginning four hours later. The remaining field events will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday with the running events starting at 2 p.m.
UTSA's track & field facility boasts the only Olympic-quality running surface in South Texas. Marked with wider lanes and enhanced subsurface support, the track was constructed to host national and international meets, as well as NCAA Championship events. The stadium currently includes 1,000 seats and a spacious state-of-the-art press box. Open areas surrounding the facility have been designed to house temporary seating up to 10,000 for national and international competitions.
The competition is the first outdoors for the full squad, as WSU's multi-athletes are coming off a successful Rice Shirley Crowe Multis event in Houston. The Shocker women Heptathletes all set personal records for points and claimed five of the top six spots, led by champion
Gavyn Yetter's 5,447 points, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Yetter moved her personal best from eighth-best in Shocker history to the fourth-best on the Top 10 list. In the Decathlon,
Hunter Veith was the highest-scoring Shocker and collegian with 6,817 points, finishing fourth.
