Heptathlon ResultsHOUSTON, Texas -- Wichita State's women's track and field Heptathlon contingent held down four of the top five spots after the first day of the Rice University Shirley Crowe Multi-Events competition at Ley Track.
The Shockers'
Gavyn Yetter led the field after four events with 3,235 points, while
Marteshia Caines was in second with 3,077 points. UTA's Alexus Henry was in third (3,043) while WSU's
Sierra Hays (2,978) and
Claudia Rojo (2,940) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
The women completed the 100 hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200 meters today, and finish tomorrow with the long jump, javelin and 800 meters.
WSU's
Emily Doffing was seventh (2,772),
Carlea Holt was 10th (2,685) and
Ximena Cazenave (2,458) was 12th to round-out WSU's women's competitors.
On the men's side in the Decathlon,
Hunter Veith was in second place with 3,831 points as the top collegian behind Shocker alum and All-American Austin Bahner's 3,961 point through five events.
The men completed the 100 meters, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 meters today, and will finish Wednesday with the 110 hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500 meters.

Kaden Griffin was fifth with 3,577 points,
Seth Buck was 12th (3,283),
John Nicholas was 14th (3,202)
Chris Peters is in 15th place (3,196),
Ben Johnson is in 22nd (2,774) and
Kyle Troxler (1,980) is in 23rd.
