Belardo, Borman Earn Second-Team AA

Pentathlon Results  |  Long Jump Results

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Wichita State student-athletes Breanne Borman and Jared Belardo both placed 12th in the Pentathlon and Long Jump, respectively, to earn Second-Team All-American honors at the 2016 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday at the CrossPlex.

"I am so proud of both Breanne Borman and Jared Belardo," said Steve Rainbolt, WSU Director of Track and Field and Cross Country. "To both finish 12th at an NCAA National Championship is a wonderful accomplishment for them. The first time that an athlete goes on the national stage is challenging, and I was impressed with how both Breanne and Jared handled themselves.

"They both come home as Second-Team NCAA All-Americans, and I think it was a wonderful way to finish off a great indoor season for both of them."

Borman, who opened the competition tying her personal best with a 12th-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles at 8.64, had a high finish of eighth in the shot put with a distance of 40-8.75 (12.41m). She was 11th in the high jump (5-6, 1.68m) and the long jump (18-10.75, 5.76m), and 13th in the 800 meters (2:27.75) to round-out the competition. She scored 4,003 points in the five events.

Belardo, the only freshman in the NCAA long jump field and the 2016 Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year, jumped 24-1 (7.34m) on his first jump of the competition. He was sixth after the first round, and jumped 23-9.5 (7.25m) on his second attempt before fouling his third attempt.

Kendall Williams of Georgia won the women's Pentathlon with 4,703 points to break her own NCAA record, and Arkansas senior Jarrion won the long jump with a distance of 26-1 (7.95).

Wichita State opens the outdoor season at the Shirley Crowe Multi-Events Meet March 15-16 in Houston, Texas, while on March 18-19, the Shockers will travel to San Antonio, Texas, for the UTSA Challenge.
