CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Wichita State's women were in first, and the men second, after the first day of competition at the 2016 Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championship Saturday at the UNI Dome. |
Live Results The Shocker women had 44 points after the first day, with UNI following in second with 33 and Indiana State third with 28. In the men's race, SIU was in first with 60 points and the Shocker men in second with 46.50 points, while Indiana State was third with 31 points.
Each Shocker team had an individual champion in the field events on the day.
On the women's side
Jamesia Milton won her eighth meet of the season in the weight throw with a heave of 66-10.75, while
Jared Belardo won the long jump for the men with a WSU school record distance of 25-9.5. Belardo's jump was also a personal best and the ninth-best in the NCAA heading into the weekend, which could prove to have NCAA qualifying possibilities.
For the women,
Breanne Borman broke her own school record in the Pentathlon with 4,133 points. She won the long jump and the shot put Pentathlon events en route to a second place overall finish. Her score may also qualify for the NCAA Championship.
Gavyn Yetter also scored for WSU in the Pentathlon with 3,839 points in third place, while Marteisha Caines was fifth with 3,626 points.
Jenny Pinkston was sixth with 3,601 points and
Claudia Rojo was eighth with 3,544 points.
Also scoring for the women was
Sidney Hirsch, who finished fourth in the 5,000 meters in a time of 16:56.48, while the Shocker Distance Medley Relay of
Sarah Wright,
Lauren Pickens,
Morgan Prather and
Savannah Wright was seventh in a time of 12:36.96.
Borman also competed in the open long jump and finished fifth with a jump of 19-00.5.
Courtney Mills was seventh with a distance of 18-10.5.
On the men's side,
Skylar Arneson was second in the weight throw with a toss of 65-11.75, while
Weston Cottrell was fourth with a throw of 62-9.5.
In the pole vault,
Hayden Bugner was fourth with a height of 16-5.25 and
Chris Peters was sixth at 16-1.25.
In the men's 5,000 meters,
Brady Johnson was third in 14:32.33 while
Kyle Larkin was fifth in 14:42.00.
The men's Distance Medley Relay was sixth in 10:15.79 with legs run by
Reno Law,
Colton Mays,
Connor Stine and
Nathan Wickoren.
After the first four events in the Heptathlon,
Ben Johnson leads the field with 2,839 points. He was first in the shot at 42-7.5, with the 60 meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000 meters left to be competed Sunday.
Also in the Heptathlon for WSU,
Kyle Troxler was in fourth with 2,750 points,
Seth Buck was fifth with 2,684 points,
Chris Peters was sixth with 2,628 points and
Tyler Knight was seventh with 2,61 points through the four events.
Kaden Griffin was also seventh in the long jump with a distance of 23-7.25.
