WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita State's men's and women's track and field teams each won the Herm Wilson Indoor Track and Field meet Friday and Saturday inside the Heskett Center.

The women's team won six individual titles to take the meet, 203-144, over second-place Texas-Arlington. North Texas was third with 140 points, UMKC was fourth with 116 points and Oral Roberts was fifth with 98 points. On the men's side, WSU claimed three individual titles to top North Texas, 191-169, while UTA was third with 154 points, UMKC was fourth with 110 points and ORU was fifth with 95 points.
WSU's performance was highlighted by
Ugis Jocis, who set the Heskett Center and Herm Wilson record with an 8:14.84 in the 3,000 meters. He broke the meet record held by teammmate
Brady Johnson who ran the 3,000 meters in 8:22.46 a year ago, and who also finished second Saturday in a time of 8:31.10. The building record was previously 8:20.42 by Edwin Heshaw, who ran unattached in 2009.
The Shockers' distance success was also featured with
Sidney Hirsch and
Rebekah Topham who won the mile run and the 3,000-meters, respectively. Hirsch won the mile for the Shockers in a time of 5:00.48, while
Emilea Finley was second in 5:00.65.
Topham won the 3,000 meters in a time of 9:46.19, which was just off the meet record which is 9:42.29, to set a personal best in her first collegiate 3,000 meters.
On Friday night, Wichita State's weight throwers had a two-way sweep with
Jamesia Milton winning the women's division with a throw of 62-1.25, and
Taylor Goldsmith winning the men's side with a throw of 66-3.25.
Skylar Arneson and
Weston Cottrell completed the seond sweep of the night for WSU with second- and third-place with throws of 65-11.75 and 61-7.75, respectively.
On Saturday, Milton won her second event in the meet with a personal-best throw of 46-9 3/4 in the shot put on her final attempt which moved her into fourth all-time at WSU. Additionally for the women,
Ashley Petersen won the high jump for the Shockers on Saturday with a height of 5-foot-8.
Also for the men on Friday night,
Jared Belardo won the men's triple jump (51-5), while
Breanne Borman won the women's long jump (18-7.25) to score points for the women.
Wichita State also had a special recognition of the 1966 track and field team, which won the first Missouri Valley Conference track and field title in history, and also of the meet's namesake, former Coach Herm Wilson on Saturday afternoon.

Herm Wilson Day 1 - Friday Night Highlights-Wichita State's weight throwers had a two-way sweep with Jamesia Milton winning the women's division with a throw of 62-1.25, and Taylor Goldsmith winning the men's side with a throw of 66-3.25. Cowley County CC was runner-up in the women's competition with 53 points and Hutchinson was third with 51 points. The men's runner-up was Hutchinson CC with 68 points and Cowley County CC was third with 56 points.-In the women's Pentathlon Friday, Sierra Hays won with 3,411 points, while Kaden Griffin was the men's Heptathlon leader after four events with 2,846 points and Seth Buck was in second with 3,492 after a personal best high jump of 6-4 1/4. The men resume Saturday morning at 9:45 a.m.Herm Wilson Day 2 - HighlightsHeptathlon (team unscored) - Wichita State's Kyle Troxler took over the lead with 4,194 points after the 60m hurdles and pole vault Saturday morning, winning the hurdles in 8.43 and vaulting 14-5 1/4 as the top collegian. Buck was in second after the six total events with 4,137 points.Women's Shot - Jamesia Milton won the shot put with a personal best throw of 46-9 3/4 on her final attempt which moved her into fourth all-time at WSU. Kelsey Slawson finished third with a throw of 45-3 1/4.Men's Shot - Zach Loesch threw 54-9 to take runner-up honors to UMKC's Blake Hocking (54-10 1/2). Skylar Arneson finished third with a personal best of 54-8 1/2.Heptathlon (team unscored) - Wichita State's Kyle Troxler won the event with 4,869 points. Buck finished second with 4,818 points. Buck won the 1,000 meters, the final Heptathlon event, with a time of 2:58.35.Men's Long Jump - Kaden Griffin finished eighth with a jump of 21-10, WSU's highest finisher.Women's Triple Jump - Wichita State's Addy Moser placed third in the triple jump with a personal-best distance of 38-8 3/4.Women's Mile - Sidney Hirsch won the mile run for the Shockers in a time of 5:00.48.
