Quickly... Wichita State hosts the Herm Wilson Invitational inside the Heskett Center Indoor Track and Field Facility Friday and Saturday. The Division I meet Friday night  included North Texas, UT-Arlington, UMKC, Oral Robers and host Shockers competing the men's triple jump, weight throw, high jump and the women's pole vault, weight throw and long jump. The meet continues Saturday morning.

Friday Night Highlights
-Wichita State's weight throwers had a two-way sweep with Jamesia Milton winning the women's division with a throw of 62-1.25, and Taylor Goldsmith winning the men's side with a throw of 66-3.25. Skylar Arneson and Weston Cottrell completed the sweep with second and third with throws of 65-11.75 and 61-7.75, respectively.
-Also on Friday night, Jared Belardo won the men's triple jump (51-5) while Breanne Borman won the women's long jump (18-7.25). Jenny Pinkston was third at 18-5. In the night's action, Page Stuhlsatz was second in the pole vault with a height of 12-4. WSU's Garret Lynch was third in the high jump at 6-8.75.
-Butler County won the junior college meet meet Friday with 154 points on the women's side and 155 points on the men's side. Cowley County CC was runner-up in the women's competition with 53 points and Hutchinson was third with 51 points. The men's runner-up was Hutchinson CC with 68 points and Cowley County CC was third with 56 points.
-In the women's Pentathlon Friday, Sierra Hays won with 3,411 points, while Kaden Griffin was the men's Heptathlon leader after four events with 2,846 points. The men resume Saturday morning at 9:45 a.m.

50 Year Reunion... At approximately 3 p.m., Wichita State will recognize the 50th Anniversary of Wichita State's first Missouri Valley Outdoor Track and Field Championship. Eleven members of the 1966 MVC title team, coached by Fritz Snodgrass, will be honored at the meet and also during a timeout of the 11 a.m., men's basketball game. Team members in attendance are Barry Arbuckle, John Combs, Tom Holliday, Terry Johnson, Tom Kinkaid, John Morton, Ken Pauly, Charlie Perez, Melvin Reed, Phil Schepis and Paul Smith.

Coach Herm Wilson... Wichita State named its Invitational meet after former head coach Herm Wilson in 2011. Coach Wilson is a member of the WSU Pizza Hut Shocker Sports Hall of Fame and successfully coached the  Shockers from 1967-83.

Current Shockers/Herm Wilson Record-Holders... Current Shocker Sidney Hirsch set the 5,000 meter record at the Herm Wilson in 2014 with a time of 17:30.08, while Brady Johnson set the men's 3,000 meter record in a time of 8:22.46 in 2015. Ugis Jocis also set the Mile record in 2014 in a time of 4:13.79.

Team Scores in 2015... Wichita State won the men's and women's 2015 Herm Wilson in 2014 and 2015. UTA was second, Emporia State was third and ORU was fourth both in 2015 on both the men's and women's side. In 2014, UTA was second in the men's competition and Stephen F. Austin was second on the women's side.

Weekly Review... Wichita State's track and field team's use of a split squad last weekend at the Air Force Team Challenge and the Meyo Invitational paid off with 30 personal bests and 12 Top 10 updates to the Shocker All-Time lists.

Rankings Info... In addition, the Shocker men moved up to No. 4 in the ustfccca.org Midwest Region Top 25 team rankings while the women are 12th. This week's Track and Field National Dual Rankings have not been released, but WSU's women were ranked No. 11, and the men's team dropped one spot to No. 9, in the weekly Track and Field News National Dual Rankings a week ago.

Women in WSU Top 10 Last Week... WSU's women set seven Top 10s led by Taylor Larch-Miller's 24.56 in the 200 meters, which is the third-best in history, and the Distance Medley Relay team of Rebekah TophamSavannah WrightEmilea Finley and Sidney Hirsch which ran the fourth-best time in history, 11:45.73. Rianna Maples pulled the seventh-best 60 meter time (7.64) in history, while Rebekah Topham's mile time of 4:52.78 was also seventh-best.Angie Vailas' 60 meter time of 7.69 was the ninth-best and Martiesha Caines' high jump of 5-8 is tied for the 10th best.

Men Also Reach Top 10... For the men, Ugis Jocis' mile time of 4:04.41 is the third-best at WSU and topped a list of five who improved their bests and found Top 10 marks. Brady Johnson's 3,000 meter time of 14:20.74 is a personal best as he kept the No. 4 spot at WSU, while Jared Belardo's 24-7.75 in the long jump moves him to tied for sixth. Paul Raymond also improved his 5,000 meter time and held onto the No. 7 spot in the Top 10. Tucker Davis' 21.77 in the 200 meters holds down the No. 8 spot to round out updates for the men.

Top 100 NCAA Marks... Wichita State's track and field athletes still have 28 Top 100 NCAA marks after five solid weeks of competition in 2016. Breanne Borman's school record 4,142 points in the Pentathlon this week dropped one spot to No. 11 in the NCAA. The top 16 qualifiers who declare will compete in the NCAA Indoor Championship March 11-12 in Birmingham, Alabama. Jamesia Milton's school-record weight throw of 66-10 that broke her own school record is now the 16th-best in the NCAA this season, while Jared Belardo's triple jump of 51-11.75 is ranked No. 19 this week. Here's a look at the Shockers' men's and women's performances to date.

Air Force Team Challenge Review... The men's second-place performance at the Air Force Team Challenge helped the ranking as the Air Force men won the team event over the Shockers, 149-133, while North Dakota State was third with 109 points and South Dakota was fourth with 68 points. WSU's men collected five individual titles led by Jared Belardo's two titles in the horizontal jumps. Taylor Goldsmith won the weight throw with a toss of 66-10, while Belardo won the long jump with a leap of 24-7.75, and them triple jump with a jump of 51-2.25.

Tucker Davis won the 200 meters in a time of 21.77 while A.J. Stephens won the 60 meter hurdles in 8.16 to round-out WSU's champions.

Meyo Milers... Highlights of the Meyo Invitational included Jocis' third-best mile time in Shocker history with a personal best of 4:04.41. For the women, Topham ran the seventh-best Shocker mile time with a 4:52.78.

Jocis improved his Top 10 mile time from 4:05.65 a year ago to his mark to pass Pizza Hut Shocker Sports Hall of Fame member Randy Smith's 1974 time of 4:05.60. Only Alan Walker's 1973 time of 4:01.50 and Girts Azis' 2008 time of 4:01.80 sit in front of Jocis at No. 1 and 2, respectively.

Topham's time sits in seventh behind Karin Lindberg's 1988 time of 4:52.70. Kellyn Johnson holds the women's record in the mile at 4:35.35 set in 2009.

Next Up... The Shocker Track and Field team travels to the Kansas State Open Fri., Feb. 19, in Manhattan, Kan., before travelling to the MVC Indoor Championships inside the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa (Feb. 27-28).
