HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. – The Wichita State women's golf team finished its fall 2016 schedule with a 13th place finish at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock Golf Classic.
 
After improving in the second round the women dipped in round three to card their lowest score of the tournament with 313. Overall the women carded 310-306-313 through the three 18 hole rounds to finish with 929.
 
Senior Maria Alejandra Villalobos topped the Shockers individually with a total of 229. Villalobos carded her best score in round two with 71 and followed it up with 80 in round three to finish tied for 23rd overall, her best finish of the fall slate.
 
Laine Evans and Gavrilla Arya were not far behind, both finishing tied for 38th with 232. Evans shot 77 in the final round while Arya shot 78 to end the tournament with identical scores.
 
Taryn Torgerson's second round score of 81 left her with a mountain to climb in round three in which she eventually carded 78. Torgerson ended the tournament tied for 57th after finishing with 236 overall.
 
Samantha Stewart carded 84 in round three to finish in 80th position. Stewart finished with 248 through the three-day tournament.
 
After starting the day tied for first, Central Arkansas pulled away from UTEP in the final round to claim first place by six strokes. Central Arkansas finished with 891 while UTEP finished with 897, North Texas finished a stroke behind in third with 898.
 
The Shockers now look to their spring slate in preparation for the MVC Championships in April in which they are looking to win their fourth Missouri Valley Conference championship in a row. The women begin 2017 with the Rio Verde Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz., on Feb. 24-26.
