Wichita State baseball All-American Conor Gillaspie hit a three-home run for the San Francisco Giants on Oct. 5 to help the team to a 3-0 win over the New York Mets in the National League Wild Card Game.

Conor, who wore No. 34, played third base for the Shockers from 2006-08. He is from Omaha, Neb., and went to Millard North High School. He was the 37th pick of the 2008 MLB Draft to the San Francisco Giants and earned many honors while at Wichita State including:

-Collegiate Baseball First Team Freshman All-American (2006)

-Played on three NCAA Tournament teams (2006, 2007, 2008)
-Played on two NCAA Super Regional teams (2007, 2008)
-Played on two Missouri Valley Conference regular-season championship teams (2007, 2008)

-Holds school record for highest batting average in a NCAA Tournament after hitting .611 (11-for-18) in the 2006 Norman Regional
-Finished his career hitting .370 (27-for-73) in NCAA Tournament play (2006-08)
-Holds school record for highest batting average in a Missouri Valley Conference Tournament after hitting .692 (9-for-13) in the 2008 MVC Tournament
-Cape Cod League MVP (Summer of 2007)
-Hit .511 (46-for-90) with runners in scoring position during his junior season (2008)

Conor's younger brother Casey, who wore No. 16, also played for the Shockers. Casey played first base from 2012-14 and was a consensus first team All-American in 2014. He was the 20th pick of the 2014 MLB Draft to the Tampa Bay Rays and was named the Rays Minor League Player of the Year this year after playing for Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham.
