OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Wichita State men's golf team finished day one at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate tied for fifth after carding 585 through the opening two rounds.

Grant Bennett led the Shockers after a strong performance through both rounds to end the day 2-under par. Bennett shot 72 and 70 through rounds one and two to finish at 142 and in sixth place individually.

Next best for the Shockers was Conrad Walcher who ended the day tied for ninth. Walcher carded 73 and 71 through the opening two rounds to finish at 144, at even par and just behind his teammate Bennett.

Gage Ihrig struggled slightly through the opening 18 but bounced back in the second round. Ihrig shot 78 through round one before carding 72 through the final 18 to end the day at 150, 6-over par.

Jacob Bishop and Yannik Emmert finished the day one stroke apart and just behind Ihrig. Bishop finished tied for 44th after carding 75 and 76 through the opening two rounds. Emmert was just behind him after carding 76 through both rounds. Bishop finished with 151, 7-over par and Emmert finished with 152, 8-over par.

Competing individually, Adrien Michellod finished the day in 69th place after carding 82 and 81 through the first day. Michellod finished with 163, good for 17-over par.

Grand Canyon sits atop the leaderboard after day one after carding 573 overall. Stephen F. Austin is three strokes behind at 576 with UMKC in third with 580.

The men head back onto Creekmore Golf Club tomorrow for the final 18 holes which begin at 8:30 a.m. CT with a shotgun start.
