WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State softball team finished off its fall season on a high note, defeating Northern Oklahoma-Enid by a score of 9-0 on Tuesday evening.
Morgan Palmer started in the circle for the Shockers, allowing just one hit in two innings. Kaitlyn Malone finished the last five innings, allowing just three hits, and striking out 10.
After a scoreless first inning, Kiersten Otte scored from second base on an error by the second baseman. A single by
Kelli Spring to left field scored one, as
McKenzie Adams got thrown out at home for the final out of the inning, giving Wichita State an early 2-0 lead.
Singles by
Cassidy Kelsheimer and Asea Webber scored to more in the bottom of the third to take a 4-0 lead.
With two outs in the bottom of the fifth,
Madison Perrigan homered to left-center to push Wichita State's lead to 5-0.
A double to center field by
Laurie Derrico scored one run in the bottom of the sixth to add to the Shockers' lead, 6-0.
After a leadoff double by
Kennedy Long, Palmer singled to right field to score Long. A single from Adams and a sacrifice fly from Otte, scored the final two runs to give Wichita State the 9-0 victory.
The Shockers end their fall season with a perfect record of 7-0, and look to defend their 2016 Missouri Valley Conference Championship in the upcoming spring season.
