WICHITA, Kan. – Head men's golf coach
Grier Jones has today announced former Arizona State assistant coach and former Shocker golf standout,
Judd Easterling, as the new assistant coach to the men's golf program at Wichita State.
"We're really lucky to get someone like Judd (Easterling) who has great knowledge and a lot of energy", Jones said. "Finding an assistant coach mid-season is difficult and we were lucky someone like him (Easterling) was available. He's worked a lot here in Wichita before, he's a real personable guy and I'm delighted to have Judd back as a Shocker."
Easterling has spent the last year in the Pac-12 as an assistant coach to the men's and then the women's golf teams at Arizona State University. Before that he spent two years as the assistant golf coach at the University of Missouri.
As an athlete, Easterling played all four years under Jones at Wichita State earning five individual career collegiate victories. As a three year captain, Easterling earned numerous accolades including being named a two time All-American, four time All-Conference, two time All-Academic and nine time MVC Golfer of the Week.
Easterling's stellar playing career at Wichita State culminated in being named to the MVC All-Centennial Team, which highlights exceptional golf athletes from 1908-2007. Easterling also qualified for three NCAA National Championships as a Shocker (2003, 2004, 2005), finishing 10th in 2004.
As an amateur Easterling made two U.S. Amateur appearances, was a Kansas Amateur quarterfinalist in 2003, named the 2003 Phil Cotton Champion and a Porto Cima Four Ball Champion. As a professional he played in five events in the Adams Tight Lies Tour (2004, 2005) and qualified for the second stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying tournament in 2005.
A native of Camdenton, Mo., Easterling graduated from Wichita State in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management.
