Rainbolt Week One PreviewWICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita State's Track and Field teams will take approximately 90 student-athletes to compete at the Wildcat Invitational Saturday in Manhattan, Kan., inside Ahearn Field House.
Field events begin at 11 a.m., with the men's pole vault and long jump and the women's weight throw, while running events begin at 2 p.m. with the Mile Run.
"We are really excited about the 2016 Track and Field season," said Head Coach
Steve Rainbolt. "We start out this weekend at Kansas State in a good season opener. We will get most of out athletes involved, not every single one, but the vast majority of our athletes will get started this week. Our athletes need to be training over the break and come back ready to go, and all of the reports that we have from all of our athletes say we are in good shape and ready to go."
It will be the first full meet for the 2016 Shocker Track and Field team. WSU held a small Shocker Pentathlon competition on Dec. 1 when newcomer Marteisha Caines won the event with 3,736 points in the Heskett Center Indoor Track and Field Facility. |
Shocker Pentathlon ResultsCaines' point total was good enough for seventh in Wichita State's Top 10 Indoor Pentathlon list, while
Gavyn Yetter's 3,646 points didn't beat her personal best and Top 10 mark of 3,691, but did put her in second place. Newcomer
Claudia Rojo collected 3,615 points which put her just out of WSU's all-time top 10.
Kansas State's fourth-ranked women and 20th-ranked men are the hosts for the event Saturday on the Kansas State campus.
